Knudsen Vineyard is located in the heart of the Dundee Hills AVA. We farm primarily Pinot noir and Chardonnay grapes. Our oldest producing Pinot noir vines were planted in 1974. Over the years, Knudsen Vineyard has supplied grapes to some of the most renowned producers of still and sparkling wine in Oregon.
Knudsen Vineyard comprises 228 total acres with approximately 130 planted and producing vineyard acres of Pinot noir, Chardonnay and Pinot meunier grapes (over 20 planting blocks). We have two long, predominantly southeast oriented slopes at elevations ranging from 500 feet to 1,000 feet above sea level.
The vineyard is planted in 100% red clay-loam Jory soil – designated as Oregon’s official state soil in 2011. Jory soil is unique to the northern Willamette Valley and has excellent minerality and drainage.
We have planted a variety of rootstocks – 101, Riparia and 3309 – and some vines are own-rooted. We have employed heritage and French Dijon clones for our Pinot noir vines including Pommard, 115, 667 and 777 while our Chardonnay vines are planted to French Dijon clones 76, 95 and 96.
